The PhD-Net Open Science Working Group invites everyone to a hands-on online workshop kindly given by Konrad Förstner. The workshop is part of the Open Science Ambassadors Program, but not limited in participation to the current Ambassadors.

Konrad Förstner “Tools and concepts for making your research open and FAIR”
This immersive two-hour workshop is tailored to introduce researchers to the tools and techniques crucial for advancing open science practices as well as the FAIR principle. Participants will embark on a hands-on journey, discovering how repositories, knowledge graphs, and reproducible computations intertwine to catalyze transparency and collaboration in research endeavors. The workshop commences with an exploration of Zenodo, an esteemed research data repository. Following this, the workshop delves into the expansive realm of Wikidata, a collaborative knowledge graph brimming with structured data. Participants will uncover the transformative potential of Wikidata as a rich resource for enriching research projects, emphasizing its role in promoting transparency and interoperability across diverse domains. Furthermore Jupyter notebooks, esteemed for their capacity to facilitate reproducible computations and analyses will be visitied. At its core, this workshop champions the ethos of open science and FAIR data, equipping participants with practical skills to enhance the reproducibility and accessibility of their research outputs.
About Konrad Förstner
Konrad Förstner is a joint professor for Data and Information Literacy at the TH Köln and ZB MED – Information Centre of Life Sciences – in Cologne where he leads the Data Science and Services unit. He is member of several organizations that promote Open Science. He is the speaker of NFDI4Microbiota consortium which of the NFDI (National Research Data Infrastructure) in Germany and founding member of the working group “Open Science” of the Open Knowledge Foundation Germany and he represents the German Rectors’ Conference in the working group “Digital tools: Software and Services” in the Priority Initiative “Digital Information” which is a joint initiative of the Alliance of Science Organisations in Germany. Since 2019 he is member of the Advisory Board of the Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society – the German Internet Institute. Prof. Förstner is strongly involved in “The Carpentries” (an umbrella of Software, Data and Library Carpentry) – a non profit organsiation that aims to teach fundamental data science skill to scientists and librarians.
